Mz7 (bot)
Mz7 (bot) seems to have stopped working. Nosferattus (talk) 02:56, 25 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Nosferattus: Thanks for letting me know! The problem was with Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Nv7801. Originally it was created at the improper name Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigationsNv7801 (without the forward slash), and my bot didn't know how to find the name of the case without the slash, so it completely gave up. I will look into fixing this to handle this kind of situation more gracefully. The bot is working now because the Nv7801 case was moved to the correct case name. Mz7 (talk) 07:11, 25 March 2025 (UTC)

Billy Smith making racist comments.
Billy Smith was a bigot. During a game with the Buffalo Sabers, he made repeating racist slurs against Tony McKegney. Tony was making in roads as a black player, and Smith did not seem to like that prospect. That captain of Buffalo, Danny Gare, went straight to the press complaining about the racial slurs. 2607:FEA8:440:2880:C8E0:B4F0:F113:434B (talk) 21:02, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
- If we are going to add anything about this incident to the article, then it needs to have inline citations to reliable sources, especially because the article is a biography of a living person. Mz7 (talk) 21:05, 29 March 2025 (UTC)
Mz7 (bot) having an issue on SPI case list
Hi Mz7! It appears that Mz7 bot is having some issues with an entry (2001:56a:7000::) in Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/SPI/Cases. As far as I can tell, it never existed but for some reason is listed and the bot hasn't taken it out in a couple days -- rather, it's modified around it. Wanted to raise this apparent edge case that might just need manual removal but saw the notes not to manually edit so came here. TheSandDoctor Talk 17:36, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/2001:56a:7000::/36.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:40, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- Ah, so the fact that it is a range appears to have broken things then. TheSandDoctor Talk 18:01, 6 April 2025 (UTC)
- @TheSandDoctor: Mm, thanks for bringing this to my attention. Indeed, my bot takes the page's name and does
.split("/")[1]
to get the case name—naturally this works in most cases, but if there are two forward slash characters, as in the case here, it will produce the effect that happened (only grabbing the text between the first and second/
characters). I have been meaning to make the logic that gets the case name more robust against diabolical edge cases (see also [1], in which the absence of any forward slash characters completely killed the bot due to an uncaught exception). I will look into this as soon as I get some free time. Mz7 (talk) 01:40, 7 April 2025 (UTC)- Sounds good. Thanks for the update. Just to close this particular one off, Izno moved it without leaving a redirect and the bot is now happy. But definitely a good idea to make it more robust for "diabolical" edge cases.

Request for Rollback
Hey! I would like to request rollback rights, however unfortunately my browser crashes when I view the main request page :P
I believe I am a worthy candidate as I have months of experience in countervandalism in the recent changes page, as well as having experience reviewing pending changes. I would like to use this permission to further revert vandalism and use tools to better countervandalize, such as Huggle. Thank you for your consideration! Benedictions, FarmerUpbeat (talk) 14:34, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
Done. Mz7 (talk) 21:06, 25 April 2025 (UTC)
Rollback permissions
What is the difference between the twinkle version of rollback and the user right version? Is it just that there is no confirmation in the user right? I am considering requesting the right, but if it is just like/similar to the twinkle version then I don't see a benefit to have it. (For my usage case that is, other people quite likey find it invaluable for what they do.) Sheriff U3 02:16, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Sheriff U3: In terms of the end result, there is no difference between Twinkle's red "[vandalism]" rollback button and the user right version of the rollback button. Both will revert changes in one click. The Twinkle version will let you leave an edit summary if you use the blue "[rollback]" button, while the user right version will always leave a generic edit summary. The main reason you might want to request the user right instead of just using Twinkle is that the rollback right is required in order to use certain tools like Huggle that let you identify and respond to vandalism quickly. Because you could do a lot of damage quickly with tools like Huggle, we want to make sure that editors are capable of correctly distinguishing good faith edits and vandalism before they get access to them. Mz7 (talk) 03:54, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Will be using twinkle then, don't need another button on my interface, plus I don't see a need for me to use huggle. Thanks for your help! Sheriff U3 04:03, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

Interface administrator changes
- Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
- An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in {{sticky decoration wrapper}}. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
- An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.
- A New Pages Patrol backlog drive is happening in May 2025 to reduce the backlog of articles in the new pages feed. Sign up here to participate!

I can't inform the author of the song, I don't know him and he been gone since 1975. TheNonEditor (talk) 02:06, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- @TheNonEditor: Ok, but I don't think we need the lyrics in the article, anyway. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a lyrics database. Just discuss the song without including any copyrighted material. Mz7 (talk) 02:09, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
